Enugu’s Golden Era: Two Years of Transformation Under Governor Mbah

May 29, 2025, marks two years since Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah assumed office as the Executive Governor of Enugu State. Without equivocation, these two years have heralded the dawn of a Golden Era in the history of the state. Under Governor Mbah’s leadership, Enugu has witnessed sweeping transformation across virtually every sector—education, healthcare, security, tourism, transportation, job creation, sports, industrialisation, civil service reform, local government administration, and judicial independence, to name a few.

In education, Governor Mbah has revolutionized learning with the establishment of smart schools in every ward across the state. These modern institutions are fully equipped to prepare students for the digital age, ensuring that no child is left behind. Teachers now enjoy improved remuneration, marking an end to the era of unpaid salaries and neglected educators. Pensioners and retirees—those who once faced endless delays—are now paid promptly, reaffirming the government’s respect for those who served in years past. The healthcare sector is equally being overhauled with the construction and equipping of new health centres in every ward, bringing quality healthcare closer to rural communities and reducing maternal and infant mortality rates.

The transportation sector is experiencing a renaissance with the deployment of over 2,000 CNG and electric buses, easing mobility across the state. In tourism, sites like the Awhum Waterfalls and Ngwo Pine Forest—home to Nigeria’s first zipline—are being transformed into major attractions. The once-abandoned Presidential Hotel is undergoing renovation, while the newly completed International Conference Centre positions Enugu as a destination for global engagements. Enugu Air, with state-of-the-art aircraft, has enhanced air travel, while modern bus terminals now bring order and efficiency to land transportation. In sports, the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium and Awgu Games Village are being rejuvenated to foster wider participation and national recognition.

Governor Mbah’s job creation drive is also commendable—empowering over fifty thousand youths with the skills and resources to become self-reliant contributors to the state’s economy. His ambitious vision to grow Enugu’s economy from $4 billion to $40 billion is backed by smart city initiatives and massive infrastructure development across the state. On the security front, Governor Mbah has equipped the state with AI-powered surveillance vehicles and fosters strategic collaborations with federal agencies to keep Enugu safe. Tertiary institutions are receiving critical funding, reflecting a renewed commitment to higher education. Most significantly, political peace and stability now reign in Enugu—ushering out the dark days of acrimony and ushering in a new era of inclusive governance.

In just two years, Governor Peter Mbah has firmly placed Enugu on the path of irreversible progress. His leadership has rekindled hope, restored public trust, and positioned Enugu as a model for effective governance in Nigeria. History and posterity will surely remember him kindly.
