Enugu State Ministry of Health, in collaboration with The Carter Center (TCC)
has successfully halted lymphatic filariasis (commonly known as Elephantiasis) transmission in 2024 through the treatment of people at risk with Mectizan and Albendazole in Enugu State.
The State Ministry of Health is now commencing Morbidity Management and Disability Prevention (MMDP) activities to alleviate the suffering of people living with Hydrocele (Ibi or Mkpụ) and Lymphedema (elephantiasis – ‘Ukwu agba shoe’) in the state.
Enugu State Ministry of Health, with support from The Carter Center in collaboration with Reaching the Last Mile Fund, is flagging off free Hydrocele surgeries in the Enugu State at Enugu State University Teaching Hospital, ESUTH, Parklane, on Tuesday, 15 July 2025.
All persons living with Hydrocele (Ibi or Mkpụ) or Lymphedema (Elephantiasis of the leg – ‘Ukwu agba shoe’) are requested to report to the nearest health centers for confirmation and referral or call the following numbers: Abireh 08025442515 or Ebere 08036298047 to benefit from the free hydrocele surgical operations and lymphedema management.
