
An Enugu School, Rosary High School, Awgu has secured a massive win in the just Concluded Cultural awareness programme attracted by the Deputy Minority Leader, house of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Toby Okechukwu on the 27th of November, 2020.
The event which was Organised by the National institute for cultural orientation (NICO), was themed, ” culture consciousness empowerment and the future of the Nigerian students in greater Awgu.”
It was a cultural orientation and Sensitization programme for junior Secondary school students in Greater Awgu Enugu state, aimed at enlightening students on the relevance and uniqueness of one’s culture, as well as, the utilization of culture to the benefits of one’s growth.
The event experienced the attendance and participation of Six High Schools within that particular hemisphere,
St Vincent’s Agbogugu, Boy’s high school Inyi, Rosary high school Awgu, Corpus Christi college Achi, Model Secondary school Mpu and Girl’s high school Nenwe.
After ensuring the observation of the Covid-19 safety procedures, Washing of hands and wearing of Nose masks, the students and teachers were accredited and admitted into the venue, Awgu Civic Center, Ugbonabo.

It was in his opening remark that Mike Ekeko, Director of research who represented the Executive Secretary of Nico, Ado Muhammed Yahuza, addressed the students, with strong emphasis on the need for the government to impact on the youths in order to secure our future Generation.
In his words, he said, “Our future generation is our only way of ensuring sustainable development, it seems we are losing focus, but we ought to redirect our Resources to the Development of our younger generation.”
“Man is not an island, we most definitely have a source and have somewhere we are headed to, as such we can not survive on our own, our environment influences our position. Our immediate environment defines our behavior and our social interaction, including our beliefs and values. There is no way a man can be productive to the extent of being successful, if he fails to understand the tenets and factors that exists in the environment that influences his life directly and indirectly.”
“One of those factors which is extremely fundamental to man is culture, doing away with one’s culture is not advisable. Our culture is very rich, you shouldn’t be ashamed to portray it. our core values includes respect for elders, honesty, hardwork. Culture will help you to understand and harness your society.”

Mrs Rose M. Eze, The Chief Supervising Principal, Awgu Zone, Admonished the students to imbibe the constant use of their culture, she further urged the to be proud of their cultural heritage, Enjoining them to do away with any manner of inferiority complex with regards the comparison of their culture to the others. “Every culture has its relevance and perks, be proud of yours”, she said.
Okechukwu, who was dazzled by the immense involvement of the teachers and students in the ongoing program, appreciated them, for honouring his invitation to the program. He further questioned the students to ascertain their knowledge of the local and Cultural products which are domestically used. The students showed great knowledge of those items.
Continuing, he said, “Our job as Representatives is to support and encourage you. This program ought to be bigger, involving several competitions to showcase our rich cultural heritage, I assure you that the next one shall be bigger and better than this one.”
Dr. Okechukwu Liam, a senior lecturer in FUNAI, painstakingly gave A well comprehensive lecture, buttressing the need, relevance and gains of our cultural heritage.
Subsequently, the students were engaged in different categories of cultural competitions, which included, Cultural singing and dancing, cultural hairdo, Pageantry and Quiz competition.




Though all the schools gave their very best performances, Rosary high school Awgu, landed the best marks, making them the winner of the competition.
They were adequately awarded a Mouth watering prize to further solidify their victory.
