ENUGU ELECTIONS: The PEOPLE of enugu have refused to be intimidated- Hon. Udegbu

As the 2023 general elections fast In approaches , the tension for who will be the next leader for the country and for the states keeps brewing with high steam, and Enugu is not left behind as the tussle for power continues.

Hon. Tony Udegbu, in a recent press statement recalled that Since the beginning of 2020, Enugu political scene has all being about destroying the former Deputy President of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Prof Senator Ike Ekweremmadu and his legacies simply because he is perceived to be nursing a gubernatorial ambition.

Throwing more light on his statement, Udegbu said “First, was appointment of several SSAs, SAs and TAs on ‘destroying Senator Ekweremmadu.’ These SSAs, SAs and TAs has neither portfolio nor offices anywhere in the state. Their only assignment (s) is label and insult Ekweremmadu as much as you can and get paid at the end of the month. Feel free to call him names and even get promoted seem to be the order from the above. These were the order of the day. But despite all these, Senator Ekweremmadu remained undaunted. His popularity continued to grow.

“When these antics appear not to be working, the powers that be changed gear and initiated several rallies all aimed at aborting the legitimate ambition of the former Deputy Senate President. Millions of taxes payers’ money was wasted in those senseless rallies. It was estimated that every local government council in Enugu wasted an average of #120 Million each in that ill faithed venture. What a colossal waste. And as if it doesn’t matter, these are happening when nearly all the infrastructural developments done by former Gov. Sullivan Chime were allowed to decay and collapse.

“As these were also failing, they set up a committee chaired by a former minister who is also said to be interested in becoming governor come 2023. The former minister and his committee have been moving from one elder statesman to another seeking their support to zone the governorship ticket to Enugu East Senatorial Zone that have produced three former governors and two deputy governors. This is what they call equity.

“Unfortunately, even before getting the endorsement of the elder statesmen all of whom are incidentally from the same Enugu East zone, political gladiators from the zone are already fighting dirty and calling themselves names. The elders too were not spared in the name calling. Some of them have been attacked severally simply because they paid a visit to one person or the other.

“Dirty politics! That is life for you. When you are pointing one finger to someone four fingers will be pointing at you. The game of this elder statesman said this, this elder statesman said that is still on and we are watching. However, one thing certain is that nobody under the Sun can take away the constitutional right of Distinguished Senator Ike Ekweremmadu to contest elections as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“All these attempts aimed at aborting the legitimate ambition of Senator Ekweremmadu shows nothing but laziness on the part of the so-called candidates. There is no need for all those brouhahas. We should be concentrating on whom the Cap fits. The gladiators should have been treating us with programs and what they stand for to enable us access them instead they are busy talking about zoning or no zoning. May be after zoning they will begin to talk about local government. In fact, some local governments are already killing themselves about whose slot it will be. Nonsense! We will disappoint you guys this time.

“The people of Enugu State have passed that level. Yes! Level don change. The level we are now is MERIT. People are already keying in and I can assure you that 2023 election in Enugu State will be different. This have already started manifesting from the Opinion Poll carried out by Afri Forcast. While some contestants are still hiding under zoning and behind the governor waiting to be anointed as if the governor is a pastor, the good people of Enugu State have already started accessing them.

“According to recent Opinion Poll carried out by AFRI Forecast – a reputable Research Centre that have predicted many elections results correctly; Senator Ekweremmadu came a distant first as the most preferred gubernatorial candidate in Enugu State with 25.5 points while the second candidate Chief Chinyeka Ohaa scored 17.63%. The respondents were asked whom they will prefer to be governor of Enugu State come 2023. The people have spoken and have spoken well. The Voice of Man is the Voice of God.

“This means that the people of Enugu State are determined to take their destiny in their hands come 2023. No more anointing. Any candidate(s) that want anointing should go to his church and get one. Despite the name callings, heavily wasteful rallies, purposeless and diversionary committees, the people of Enugu State have refused to be intimidated. In the Afri Forecast Opinion Poll, the people of Enugu State have maintained their stand on Senator Ekweremmadu. This is the true situation in Enugu State. Vox Populi Vox Dei”, Udegbu declared.
