ENUGU election: citizens decry nonpayment of pensioners as they slam ugwuanyi over bribery of DELEGATES

The tension in the air in Enugu keeps getting thicker as the 2023 elections draw nearer. In the quest to install a puppet gubernatorial candidate there are indications that the Governor of Enugu State, Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi may have started the process of buying the votes of the statutory delegates expected to vote during the primary elections coming soon.

A source from Government House Enugu stated that the Statutory delegates have been scheduled for a ‘Solidarity Visit to the Governor’ which has commenced and each person is expected to receive the sum of #250,000.00 for the ‘solidarity visit’ bringing the amount to a total of #468 Million Naira. Our source also revealed that in addition, every delegate will be receiving the sum of fifty thousand naira each per month henceforth amounting to #78 million per month.

We have also received in good authority that the Twenty-Four members of the State House of Assembly smiled to the banks with the sum of Five ( #5) Million Naira each to enable them echo the drums of zoning. That comes to a total of #120 Million for members of the House.
The irony of this is that these huge amounts of money are being wasted at a time Enugu State Pensioners are being owed several months of arrears of pensions and gratuities. Sanitation has also become an issue in the Metropolis as dump sites are now set on fire instead of evacuating it. Water is virtually nonexistence anywhere in the state capital as people spent over 60%r of their salaries on buying water.

Speaking on the colossal waste of Enugu State resources at a time noting is working in state, a grass root politician from Isi Uzo local government, Chief Cosmas Okwor regretted the act of distributing money to delegates to buy their conscience and their votes and wondered why the State government suddenly realized their importance adding that these delegates have been neglected for years by the same person that is now giving them money.

Chief Okwor who is a retired teacher stated that Pensioners in the state are suffering so much as a result of non-payment of pensions and gratuities and wondered why the money was not used to reduce pension arrears.

He urged the delegates to collect the money and still vote according to their conscience stressing that Enugu State cannot continue like this for another Eight years. ‘Remember your future, remember the future of your children; remember the pensioners; do not sell your conscience, vote wisely no matter how much you collected, Enugu State is not for sale’ he concluded.
