It is not always that one gets to celebrate a leader of ultimate value, so I dare to use this medium efficaciously.

A look, down the memory lane, would reveal the essence of birthdays and the time to time elaborate celebrations. No doubts, the lustre of being,  would be overwhelming that there’d be no room to mince testimonies.

Prof. Sen. Ike Ekweremadu (CFR), was birthed about six decades ago, at a time where there was a yearning for a leader of honourable and noble character by the people of Mpu, Aninri local government Area of Enugu, he came as an answer to the constant groans and prayers of his people, bearing on the shoulders of his destiny, the rays of hope for his beloved people.

Sen. Ike started his Educational pursuit at such a young age, with his primary education at Methodist primary school, Mpu, after which he headed for his secondary education at St.  Dominic’s secondary school Aforugiri Mbano and Boy’s Grammar School Umueze where he obtained a division one in his senior secondary certificate Examination (SSCE), a certificate that fetched him an auxiliary teaching job at St. Vincent College Agbogugu.

After his Tertiary Education at the University of Nigeria in law,  Ike, practiced as a young lawyer and a lecturer in UNN, before venturing into politics, his first political feat was the emergence as the National Chairman of the Mpu town Union followed by several other elective and appointed posts including The pioneer Executive Chairman of Aninri local government area, Chief of staff and secretary 
to the Enugu state government respectively.

This political Juggernaut has served a five consecutive tenure in the Red Chambers, Three of which he was a presiding officer in the same house, Occupying the position of The Deputy Senate President of Nigeria, Deputy speaker and subsequently Speaker of ECOWAS parliament in 2011, A position that has qualified him as one of the topmost senators of the Federation, Where he has sponsored several life changing motions and bills.

An utmostly principled leader whom has set a pace that few people even dare to match, others stay and watch in fascination, though a political maestro with vast years of experience, he only gets better just like the proverbial Fine wine.

In the stretch of years of service in the Red Chambers, Prof. Ekweremadu has Exuded high sense of reasoning, intelligence, patience and Humanity in discharging his duties as a representative of the great people of Enugu West Senetorial District.

A man whose Work gives a lot of precedence to his Face, several persons are yet to make his personal acquaintance but has been enjoying the dividends from his unstintingly benevolent work all round Nigeria.

The people of Enugu west and the entire South-East at large have benefitted to a large extent, from his qualitative  Representation, little wonder, they always make haste to return him to continue his magnificent works.

Innumerable are the infrastructural developmental projects that he has attracted to his District, made up of five local government areas; Awgu, Aninri, Udi, Ezeagu and Oji River local government areas.

With great concern for the safety of road commuters, farmers and marketers in his district, he has caused the construction and refurbishment of the roads, such that Enugu west has a plethora of vehicle friendly roads to boast of, They include ;

-Oji- Mmaku- Ndiabor- Akaeze Road,

-Nenwe- Nomeh- Mburumbu- Nara road

-Ozalla-Agbani- Akpugo- Amagunze Road,

-Nenwe- Oduma- Uburu Road,

-Isikwe Achi Road

-Umuabi Road

-Etiti Amokwe road, Etc.

The list is just inexhaustible.

In solidarity and support to his state government towards Education, he has brought about several school renovation and construction projects, ICT awareness and equipment, teachers training platforms, as such, Principals and school heads even students has his praises in their mouth.

Moreso, several other sectors has indeed received his golden attention, as he has attracted electricity projects, Water projects including the Ivo Dam,  Employment of several deserving indigenes into governmental ministries and commissions.

Through his Foundation, The Ikeoha Foundation, he has put unforgettable smiles on the faces of both students and their parents through Adult Education, scholarships and bursary platforms, The yearly relief he brings to farmers through the training and the micro credit facilities can never be overemphasized, Law is indeed the man of the people.

He has constantly shown that he has the welfare of his people at heart, Through his numerous life enhancing programs such as grants, Football and other sports competitions, youth empowerments, Human resources development etc.

In collaboration with his Amiable wife, Dr. Mrs Nwanneka Ike Ekweremadu, he has chosen to bear the welfare of the widows, physically Challenged and the less privileged every other festive season.

Additionally to all the feathers in his cap, is his book “Who will love my Country, Ideas of building the Nigeria of our dreams.”

Also, he has bagged several Awards and appointments, such as the Appointment as a Professor by the southern University, Commander of the federal Republic(CFR), member parliamentarian For global action, Outstanding legislator of the year by the Independent peoples’ Newspapers, Etc.

However, For the lack of podium and diction to continue to describe your essentiality, sagacity and prowess as a leader, politician, father, husband, mentor and friend, I beg to stop with a prayer on your Birthday.

On a special day like this, I pray that the Good lord never lifts his countenance off of you, He nourishes you daily with all you need to fulfill this great destiny of yours. The zeal, grace and courage to stand firm and deliver qualitative representation shall never Elude you. Live long and continue to prosper.
