The identities of the security operatives killed on Friday during an ambush by suspected herdsmen and armed bandits at Agu Centre, Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State, have been revealed.
UGAMA TV recalls that some security personnel paid the supreme price after running into an ambush laid by hoodlums in the area.
Those confirmed dead include ASP Dalami Usman, popularly known as Danzuru; Inspector Solomon Ogebe; Navas Kukaa of the Civil Protection Guards; and Mbakiir Torpine of the Nigerian Forest Security Service (NFSS).
The victims were part of a joint security team on a tactical mission when gunmen, believed to be herdsmen and local militias, opened fire, overwhelming the operatives in a deadly firefight.
State security agencies have vowed to hunt down the attackers and reinforce patrols to prevent further violence in the area.
Meanwhile, the Executive Chairman of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, Hon. Justin Shaku, on Sunday received the remains of the eight police officers brutally murdered.
Local authorities have pledged a full investigation and intensified security operations to track down the perpetrators and restore calm to the troubled area.
