Egbetokun Resigns as IGP, Presidency Denies Sack

The Presidency has dismissed widespread reports claiming that President Bola Tinubu sacked the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, clarifying that the police chief resigned voluntarily.

Egbetokun, whose tenure had been extended by one year in 2025, reportedly submitted his resignation letter today, citing personal family reasons for his decision.

Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga confirmed the development while speaking to journalists at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, stressing that the IGP was not removed from office.

“Egbetokun resigned today. He was not sacked. A statement will be issued later,” Onanuga said.

A formal statement from the Presidency is expected to provide further details on the development.
