EFCC explains why Obiano was arrested

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has explained why it arrested the immediate past Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano.

Recall that hours after Obiano’s wife, Ebelechukwu was spotted at the airport, news of the former Anambra Governor’s arrest after he handed over to Charles Soludo, made headlines.

Speaking with BBC Pidgin, the Public Relations Officer of the commission, Wilson Uwajaren confirmed the arrest.

Uwajuren said Obiano has been on the watchlist of the EFCC prior to the transition on Thursday March 17.

He said;

“Obiano has been on our watchlist for sometime now. He had immunity as a governor and that is why we could not arrest him before now.
