The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Kannywood actress Samha Inuwa in Kano over alleged mutilation of the naira.
In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the commission disclosed that operatives of its Kano Zonal Directorate arrested the actress on Tuesday, February 3.
According to the EFCC, the arrest followed the circulation of a viral video on social media in which Inuwa was allegedly seen using naira notes to wipe mucus from her nose. The commission said it acted swiftly after the video surfaced, traced the actress, and took her into custody for questioning.
“She is currently in custody at the commission’s detention facility while investigations are ongoing,” the statement said.
The anti-graft agency added that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The EFCC also recalled that in July 2025, it organised a sensitisation programme in Lagos involving key stakeholders such as movie producers, musicians, non-governmental organisations, media practitioners, bureau de change operators, legal practitioners, and security agencies.
Speaking at the event, EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, said the initiative was prompted by the rising cases of naira mutilation and abuse across the country. He urged stakeholders to collaborate with the commission to curb the growing menace and promote respect for the national currency.
