The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested one Nwankpu James following a viral video showing the suspect allegedly subjecting a child to abusive and inhumane treatment while the child lay helplessly on bare ground.

According to the command, the Commissioner of Police, Hope Urunwa Okafor, ordered immediate action after the disturbing video surfaced online.

Acting on the directive, police operatives traced the suspect and the child’s parents to Isohumini Agbaja Community in Izzi Local Government Area, where the suspect was apprehended and the child rescued.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the command’s spokesperson, Joshua Ukandu.

Ukandu stated that the suspect is currently in police custody while investigations into the incident continue.

He added that the rescued child has been taken to Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki for urgent medical treatment.

The police command reiterated its commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of citizens, especially children, warning that all forms of child abuse and inhumane treatment will not be tolerated.
