Delta police kill suspected robber, arrest three

The Delta State Police Command has killed a suspected armed robber and arrested three others in Asaba, the state capital.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, in a statement on Tuesday, said the three suspects were arrested on October 31, 2021.

He said, “The Operation Delta Hawk team 006 and 009 while on a confidence building patrol at the Bonsaac area of Asaba intercepted a blue-coloured Qlink 150 motorcycle with number plate, Delta LEH 259 QN.

“The team, on reasonable suspicion, searched the rider and his passengers: Chuks Abah, 23; Ogbonna Micheal, 37; and Amechi Mordi, 22, who were arrested. One locally-fabricated double-barrelled pistol was recovered from a bag allegedly belonging to the rider, Abah.

“In another development, a combined team of policemen attached to the Ekpan Police Station and Effurun community vigilantes, while on a patrol at the Aka Avenue on Jakpa Road sighted unidentified armed men suspected to be armed robbers.”

According to PPRO, on sighting the policemen, the robbers opened fire on them and the team returned the gunfire.

He said during the gun duel, one of the hoodlums sustained bullet wounds, while others escaped.

The injured suspect was reportedly taken to a hospital where he died.
