Delta community buries wedding party victims of ghastly auto crash

Bomadi, in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State, mourns as seven women from the community, who died in a ghastly auto crash last Saturday while returning from a relative’s wedding ceremony, are billed for burial on Wednesday [today].

A burial handbill issued by the community for the deceased women, sighted by journalists in Warri on Tuesday, gave their names as Blessing Akpokabowei, 28; Fresh Akabolouseigha, 46; Fresh Aleigiai-Ere, 47; Bridget Teibogiren, 53; Mariana Donbrate, 53; Mary Priscilla Mieyebo, 56; and Rose Aladin-Donbraye, 61.

All the women were said to be from Agorodei Peile Quarters in Bomadi community of Delta State, and were returning from a wedding outing in Agbor when the Toyota Sienna they were travelling in somersaulted and plunged into the culvert of a river.

The space bus, with nine occupants on board, reportedly crashed at about 5:00pm along Orogun Road in Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state.

While seven persons, mainly women, were confirmed dead on the spot, two other commuters who were said to have been rushed to a hospital in Ughelli reportedly survived the crash.

An indigene of Bomadi, Perekeme Bonny, affirmed that the deceased will be buried on Wednesday.

Bonny stated, “It’s a great loss in Bomadi town. Seven beautiful, vibrant ladies dead in a motor accident on their way back home from their sister’s marriage ceremony at Agbor.

“All of them were from Agorodei Peile Quarters, Bomadi Federated Urban community.”
