Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is expected to appear before the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court on Tuesday in connection with a defamation case filed against her by the Federal Government.
Her court appearance was confirmed on Sunday by her lead counsel, West Idahosa (SAN), though it remains unclear whether she will be formally arraigned at the hearing.
Idahosa affirmed that the suspended senator representing Kogi Central will comply fully with the court’s directives.
Akpoti-Uduaghan faces allegations of making defamatory remarks against Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello. The accusations stem from two separate incidents: a live television appearance and a private phone conversation.
According to court documents, the case—filed on May 16, 2025, and marked CR/297/25—alleges that Akpoti-Uduaghan, during an April 3 appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television, accused Akpabio and Bello of conspiring to assassinate her.
Additionally, the charge claims she made further defamatory statements during a phone call on March 27, 2025. In the conversation, she allegedly linked Akpabio to the controversial organ harvesting case involving the late Iniubong Umoren, purportedly suggesting it was intended to benefit the Senate President’s ailing wife.
The matter is scheduled for hearing on Tuesday, with observers closely watching how the high-profile case unfolds.
