Former Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Solomon Dalung, has predicted the defeat of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in the 2027 general elections, regardless of any attempts to influence the electoral process.
Speaking in an interview on New Central on Friday, July 4, Dalung criticized the Tinubu-led government, accusing it of worsening the socio-economic conditions of Nigerians. He alleged that the administration has “weaponized poverty, hunger, and hardship” while enabling corruption, impunity, and injustice.
“Nigerians should buckle up for 2027 because the battle line has been drawn. The government of President Bola Tinubu has declared war against the Nigerian people,” Dalung stated.
The former minister urged opposition leaders to unite under the growing political coalition being formed through the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which has recently emerged as a rallying platform for key opposition figures preparing to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next election cycle.
“The only option we have now is to align with the coalition movement, to reposition ourselves and confront the government in 2027,” he added.
Dalung expressed strong confidence that Nigerians would vote out the current administration, even in the face of alleged institutional manipulation.
“Even if the 36 state governors defect to the APC, and Tinubu appoints his son, Seyi Tinubu, as Chairman of INEC and his wife as Chief Justice of Nigeria—and maybe even INEC becomes the last to decamp—he will still be defeated in 2027,” Dalung declared.
His comments come amid growing momentum around the ADC-led opposition coalition, which has drawn support from prominent former governors, lawmakers, and ministers, all seeking to build a credible alternative to the ruling APC.
