The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a self-proclaimed prophet, David Nyong Okon, for allegedly assaulting a teenage girl, resulting in the loss of her sight.
Okon, founder of The God of A Stainless Hand International and The Land Of Settlement Fellowship, also called Isong Utip Abasi Afia Ubok (Efik for “the land of reward from God’s clean hands”), is currently in police custody.
According to Cross River Watch, the 19-year-old victim, Godsgift Edem Edet, is being treated at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) following an unsuccessful surgical attempt to restore her vision. The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday, May 31, 2025.
A source close to the family revealed that the attack happened near The Home restaurant on Obame Ikoya Street, adjacent to the Calabar Municipal Council Secretariat. “She was standing at the exit when the prophet drove recklessly. She and her friend questioned his behavior, and when she asked her friend what happened in a local language, it angered him. He punched her and tried to flee,” the source said.
The prophet was initially prevented from escaping by local youths, who insisted he take the girl for medical attention. “He eventually took her to a pharmacy on Marian Road, but when they couldn’t treat her, he reluctantly brought her to UCTH. He was rude to staff and then abandoned her for two weeks before police finally arrested him,” the source added.
