Court remands orphanage operator, woman over trafficking of twin babies

A magistrates’ court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has remanded one Koko Crusco, who operates an orphanage home in the state, in prison custody for allegedly trafficking twin babies.

Crusco, who is the executive director of Koko Home Foundation, was remanded along with one of her staff members, Comfort Ekon, at the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre.

The court also remanded one Favour Uche for allegedly conspiring with one Dennis Chimieze, who had been remanded in a correctional facility, over the trafficking of the twins reported to have died and been deposited at the morgue of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.

The presiding Chief Magistrate, Rita Ogugwo, directed the Chief Medical Director of UPTH, through the police officer in charge of the matter, to furnish the court with the whereabouts of the corpses and relevant documents about the victims on the next adjourned date.

Crusco had told the court that the babies were brought to her facility sick on July 7, 2021 and died two days later at a police clinic. She added that the remains were deposited at the UPTH mortuary by the policeman.

The case was adjourned till July 19, 2021.
