The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan has said the Senate would adopt an electronic mode of voting as the National Assembly seeks to amend some provisions in the 1999 Constitution.

Lawan added that the voting instruments had been tested and ready for the exercise.

The Senate president Lawan said 68 bills harmonised by both chambers of the National Assembly would be considered for voting.

He said the chairman of the National Assembly Committee on Review of the 1999 Constitution and Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo – Agege will present the report upon which comments will be made by interested senators.

According to him, for a bill to pass through, it needs 88 votes which is four-fifth of the 108 senators, or 73 votes which is two-thirds of senators.

He said “If a bill passes in the Senate and also in the House of Representatives, such bill must have passed the authorization of the National Assembly and will be transmitted to state Assemblies for concurrence.

“But if a bill passes here in the Senate and fails in the House of Representatives, it is dead. And vice – versa”.
