Car wash attendant nabbed for stealing customer’s vehicle in Lagos

A car wash attendant in the Alausa area of Lagos State has been arrested after absconding with a customer’s vehicle. The spokesperson of the state police command, CP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed to newsmen.

According to him, detectives from the Alausa Police Division trailed and apprehended the suspect in Sagamu, Ogun State, where the vehicle was recovered.

Hundeyin, however, warned unsuspecting vehicle owners to be security-conscious.

He wrote,

“A car wash attendant in Alausa ran away with a customer’s vehicle. Detectives of the Alausa Police Division arrested him with the vehicle in Sagamu. Be security conscious always.”

In a related development, operatives of the Ilasan Division of the command also arrested five suspected members of a car-snatching syndicate alongside the buyer of a stolen vehicle.

Hundeyin, in a separate statement, explained that on August 1, a taxi driver reported that three men, who had ordered his services in the Lekki area of the state, boarded his black Toyota Corolla but later turned on him.

One of the suspects was said to have pointed a locally made pistol at him before he was forced out of the car.

The statement partly read

“On August 1, 2025, a taxi driver reported that three men, who had ordered his services along Platinum Way, Jakande, Lekki, boarded his black Toyota Corolla. During the trip, one of the suspects pointed a locally made pistol at him and kicked him out of the vehicle while the syndicate members fled with his vehicle.

Following investigation and intelligence-led operations, the detectives arrested five suspects: Favour Sunday, aged 25; Ikot Moses, aged 28; Dickson Ighobue Harrison, aged 35; Joshua Adedamola, aged 27, and Daniel Jonathan, aged 26.”

He noted that further investigations revealed the stolen vehicle was sold for N500,000 to one Wasiu Arinola, 40, who allegedly dismantled the car and sold the parts in Ibadan before his arrest.

“Efforts are ongoing to recover the pistol used in the robbery, trace other vehicles disposed of by the syndicate, and prosecute all the suspects accordingly.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, assures residents and visitors to Lagos State that the Command will continue to prioritise their safety and security; and urges members of the public to provide useful information to the Police at all times for prompt response,” the statement further read
