Cameroonian pastor, wife killed in Bauchi crash buried amid tears

Tears flowed freely as the remains of Pastor Kenneth Azifor and his wife, Sandra, who died in a auto crash along the Darazo-Kari-Azare Road of Bauchi State about two weeks ago, were laid to rest on Saturday.

Azifor, a Cameroonian cleric and teacher living in Bauchi, his wife and two other persons were travelling to Azare in the Katagum Local Government Area headquarters when the accident occurred.

Only the driver of the vehicle survived the crash.

The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corp, Bauchi State, Yusuf Abdullahi, who confirmed the crash, said the driver lost control while returning to his lane after overtaking another vehicle.

The remains of the couple were laid to rest on Saturday at the Christian Cemetery, Rafin Zurfi, after a funeral service at the Overcomers’ Chapel, Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi.

Hundreds of sympathizers, including church members and families, could not hold their emotions, as they cried uncontrollably.

The late Azifor, who possessed first and second degrees, died at the age of 45.

His wife, Sandra, an indigene of Ogbangede in the Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State, died at the age of 40.

In her tribute, the cleric’s mother, Christiana Azifor, said it was hard for her to believe that her son was dead.

She said, “Son, you may have overtaken me in the journey of this life and though it’s hard to accept but I have to because the ways of God are not the ways of man.

“Just know that the love I had for you from birth has done nothing besides growing stronger and stronger as I watched you turn into the fine purpose-driven man that you became. May the positive impact of your passage on this earth live on in our hearts. Mommy loves you always.”

His elder sister, Regina Kimbi, described the death as shocking.
