President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
Ramat, a 39-year-old electrical engineer with a PhD in Strategic Management, will take over from Sanusi Garba. He is to assume the role in an acting capacity, according to a statement issued by the presidential spokesperson on Thursday.
To prevent a leadership vacuum at the commission, Tinubu directed Ramat to begin work immediately, pending Senate confirmation.
In addition to Ramat’s nomination, the President also forwarded the names of two other nominees for commissioner roles: Mr. Abubakar Yusuf as Commissioner for Consumer Affairs, and Dr. Fouad Olayinka Animashun as Commissioner for Finance and Management Services.
President Tinubu urged the new appointees to leverage their expertise in supporting the administration’s goals for reforming the power sector.
