Strong signs emerged on Tuesday that the rift between embattled Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) and Senate President Godswill Akpabio is nearing resolution, as the National Assembly has unsealed her office.
The Sergeant-at-Arms, supported by security personnel, reopened Office 205 in the Senate wing, granting Akpoti-Uduaghan access to her workspace and the National Assembly complex. This move is intended to facilitate her presence when the Senate reconvenes on 7 October 2025.
Sources disclosed that at Monday’s Senate leadership meeting, it was agreed that the Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro (PDP, Benue South), will move a motion requesting her apology. If adopted, the motion is expected to clear the way for her formal return.
Akpoti-Uduaghan, formerly chair of the Senate Committee on Diaspora and NGOs, was suspended for six months in March 2025 for alleged misconduct after protesting the reassignment of her seat by Akpabio on 20 February 2025.
Although the suspension technically lapsed in September, lingering legal and political hurdles have delayed her resumption until now.
