Awgu, Enugu State — Saturday, August 23, 2025
In a bold step towards accelerating grassroots development and deepening Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s infrastructural transformation agenda, the Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Hon. Uchenna Joseph Okolo, today officially flagged off the construction of a 3.5-kilometer Awgu–Ugwueme asphalt road leading to the Ugwueme Smart Green School in Ugwueme community.
The road project is part of Hon. Okolo’s landmark initiative to deliver 1 kilometer of asphalt road in each of the eleven wards across Awgu LGA, designed to boost rural connectivity, improve access to education, and drive economic development in alignment with the Governor’s inclusive development blueprint.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Hon. Okolo reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to infrastructural transformation and sustainable development across Awgu.
“This initiative is not just about roads; it is about connecting our people to opportunities, education, and economic growth,” Hon. Okolo stated.
“We are determined to complement the visionary agenda of our dear Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, whose purposeful leadership has redefined grassroots development and inclusive governance in Enugu State.”
The Chairman explained that Ugwueme was strategically chosen as the starting point due to its educational and economic significance. He further disclosed that similar road projects will be rolled out across other wards in the coming days, leveraging the temporary break in rainfall to speed up project delivery without compromising quality.
Hon. Okolo reassured Ndi Awgu that his administration remains focused on people-centered leadership, prioritizing improved infrastructure, quality education, and enhanced living standards for every community within the LGA.
“We are building on Governor Mbah’s legacy of purposeful governance,” he added. “Awgu LGA will continue to be a proud partner in driving his vision of an Enugu State where no community is left behind.”
The flag-off ceremony drew the presence of prominent political leaders, stakeholders, and community representatives, including the Member Representing Awgu South in the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Tony Nwankwo; the Deputy Chairman of Awgu LGA, Dr. Stanley Ezediuto; the Council Secretary, Rt. Hon. Nelson Uduji; Comr. Francis Akpa; and several traditional leaders, who commended the Chairman’s proactive leadership and described the project as a major catalyst for socio-economic growth in Awgu.
