Following the recent series of philanthropic work of Deputy Minority Leader and member representing, Aninri, Awgu and Oji-River Federal Constituency, Hon. Toby Okechukwu, people have been filled with praises for his humanity, one of them being Augustine Okolie, an alumnus of National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, (NIPSS) Kuru-Jos.

Giving his perspective on Okechukwu’s investment on human capital development, Augustine said “Today’s world is a knowledge world. And there is the saying that ‘my people perish for lack of knowledge’. The global economy ostensibly is now knowledge driven.

“It is an established fact of history that education and methodical quest for it is the building block for seekers of knowledge. Illiteracy, truly is not essentially absence of going to school, however, total quality education is sine qua non to attainment of the status of a knowing one.

“When one achieves knowledge through quality education he can be said to have acquired mental capacity for survival and sense of self worth. The rest of your trajectory will be attainment of whatever life has to offer.

“It is with this belief and philosophy that Rt. Honourable Toby Okechukwu, the Deputy Minority leader in the Federal House of Representatives, representing the good people of Aninri, Awgu and Ojiriver LGAs has been making massive investments in human capital development by giving his constituents educational support and capacity.

“His interests in alleviating poverty, educational empowerment and launching of mostly the downtrodden into the orbit of skills acquisition and knowledge attained iconic levels and worthy of note.

“From the year 2011 which marked his inauguration and entry into the National Assembly, became remarkable especially for sponsorship and payment of school fees, WASC fees, Scholarships for indigent students across his three LGAs federal constituency.

“His nomination and sponsorship of higher education certificate and skills acquisition have become annual, phenomenal and recurrent. This gesture does not include some incidental interventions as far as the challenge has to do with education”, he said.

Revealing that he has been a beneficiary of Hon. Okechukwu’s philanthropy. he added “Recently, i have been a beneficiary of an all expense (tuition, accommodation and medicals) paid for a Policy, Strategy and Leadership course at the Nigeria’s highest National Institute – The prestigious National Institute for policy and strategic Studies(NIPSS) Kuru-Jos in plateau state of Nigeria.

“Payment of WASC fees for over six hundred students which has become an annual event since his election into the National Assembly (NASS) in 2011 till date & still counting, is momentous and life saving. All the beneficiaries of this his interventions were randomly selected on merit and devoid of bias or persuasion of any kind other than altruistic considerations.

“We are proud of Honourable Toby Okechukwu and the returns on his educational investments ( ROI) cannot be quantified or easily estimated. Toby, as Chairman of Works Committee at the green Chambers of NASS in the 8th Assembly, leveraged on the opportunity to redraw the road map of all the communities and Local governments within his constituency in construction, repair and upkeep.

“Street Signages, numbering, directions and landmarks that was hitherto the prerogatives of only metropolitan and urban cities adorned our communities and villages and even attracted far beyond his constituency and vicinities.

“His citizenship engagement, collaboration and consultation in matters of welfare, security and community development has no match. The attraction of one of most modern Divisional Police Headquarters at Owelli and a Local government Office of Directorate of State Services (DSS) at Awgu is commendable.

“A recreational and tourist artificially- conditioned lake with schools, guest houses and a floating platform for boat ride has a huge economic expansion implications for local economy where nature meets technology is at advanced level of completion. He is still rearing to go as he promises to see that no stone or project is left unturned or attains the ignoble status of “uncomplicated”.

“Hon. Okechukwu established a world- class Civic Center at Ugbonabo in Awgu LGA that has the capacity to seat more than 2000 guests with full compliments of facilities in parking spaces in situ. His intervention in areas of ICT and internet access and digital technology penetration is also remarkable.

“ICT centres at Uhueze Nenwe in Aninri LGA, Rosary High School Awgu approach, near the parish house and another at Ojiriver LGA are of immense benefit to prospective student – candidates especially those taking Computer based tests (CBTs) for University Matriculation Examinations (UME) and other entrance exams in our area.

“Do i talk of the Provision of hand- pump portable water supply which is an elixir and palliative in combating water borne diseases dotting various communities especially the remote Guinea worms endemic areas. Hon. Toby Okechukwu brought down the barriers in project execution outside his constituency where he fixed to an applauding university community, the vexatious water & sanitation challenge at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

“The male and female hostels that became “the house of flies” where the condition of their toilets was a huge scandal and a monumental embarrassment to the school authorities.

“His most recent remarkable intervention at the UNTH, Ituku-Ozalla pharmacology, where work is at advanced stage in the construction of a drug production and manufacturing is historical & nearing completion. Hon Toby Okechukwu is indeed a study in quality care giving in medical outreach for all and sundry.

“Overall, Honourable Okechukwu is indefatigable, unstoppable, a responsible and responsive representative of monumental proportions. All we can do is to pray for him, wish him well and continue to give him more and higher assignments and tasks in gratitude for his quality representation.
