Bandits gun down seven policemen on patrol in Zamfara, burn van

Seven policemen have been killed by bandits along Tofa-Magami Road in the Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

An indigene of the area, Salisu Sani, said that the incident occurred around 6pm on Monday when the police personnel went to the area on patrol mission.

Sani said, “The bandits ambushed the police personnel, killed seven of them and set their operational vehicle ablaze.”

Sani explained further that the bandits engaged the police operatives in a gun battle, as a result of which seven of the policemen were killed.

“I saw their dead bodies being taken to Gusau (state capial),” said Sani.

The spokesperson for the Yarima Bakura Specialist Hospital Gusau, Awwal Ruwan-Doruwa, confirmed that seven dead bodies of the slain policemen were brought to the hospital.

Efforts  to reach the spokesperson for the state police command, SP Mohammed Shehu, failed as calls made to his mobile phone rang out.
