The month of August 2025 will be remembered as a historic period for the good people of Awgu Local Government Area as the administration of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Uche Okolo, delivered transformative projects and grassroots empowerment programs across the council area.
Under a leadership vision deeply aligned with His Excellency Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s inclusive development agenda, Hon. Okolo has made significant strides in infrastructure, social welfare, education, water accessibility, and community empowerment, impacting lives in all 11 wards of Awgu LGA.
Road Infrastructure Development: Connecting Communities, Driving Growth
Hon. Okolo’s administration intensified work on strategic road projects aimed at improving mobility, boosting commerce, and connecting communities.
• 4km Agbogugu Road Project: Ongoing construction promises to enhance transportation and open up new economic opportunities.
• One Ward, One Kilometer Road Project: A bold infrastructural program designed to deliver 11 new access roads, one per ward, strengthening local economies.
• 3.5km Awgu–Ugwueme Road Project: Flagged off on August 23, 2025, this key road will improve inter-community trade, agricultural development, and rural accessibility.
• Smart Green School Access Roads: Rehabilitation of feeder roads leading to schools ensures safe, smooth, and reliable access for students, teachers, and parents.
Beautification & Secretariat Upgrade: A Modern Council for a Modern Awgu
To improve efficiency and elevate service delivery, Hon. Okolo commenced the modernization of the Awgu Council Secretariat and the Chairman’s Office Complex.
The upgrades include landscaping, beautification, and structural enhancements aimed at transforming the council into a state-of-the-art administrative hub.
Awgu Water-for-All Initiative: Clean Water, Healthy Communities
In a major milestone, Hon. Okolo expanded the Awgu Water-for-All Initiative to four additional communities:
Mgbowo, Obuofia Awgu, Nenwenta, and Mgbidi.
With these, 18 out of the proposed 25 solar-powered boreholes are now completed, bringing clean and safe water closer to Ndi Awgu.

Community Empowerment & August Meeting Visitation: Uplifting Women Across Awgu
This year’s August Meeting carried a special flavor of celebration as Hon. Uche Okolo and his team visited 16 communities, meeting directly with women groups to support, engage, and empower them.
Highlights include:
• Donation of ₦1,000,000 at the Agbogugu Women’s August Meeting.
• Promises to complete women-focused projects to boost empowerment.
• Financial and material support to community-based women associations.
Grassroots Economic Empowerment: Over 700 Okada Riders Supported
In a major step toward boosting youth employment and local commerce, Hon. Uche Okolo empowered more than 700 commercial motorcyclists across Awgu LGA.
The intervention provided logistical and financial support to help operators improve their services, drive economic independence, and enhance grassroots mobility.

Looking Ahead — September 2025
Hon. Okolo announced that September will bring even greater progress with:
• Completion of additional boreholes to reach the 25-project target.
• Accelerated work on the Agbogugu and Awgu–Ugwueme road projects.
• Launch of new empowerment programs for youth, women, and farmers.
With a clear vision, strategic planning, and people-driven leadership, Hon. Uche Okolo’s administration continues to position Awgu LGA as a model of grassroots development in Enugu State, fully aligned with Governor Peter Mbah’s transformative agenda.
