In a united display of confidence in leadership, the Awgu Legislative Council has unanimously passed a vote of confidence in the Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Hon. Uchenna Joseph Okolo, applauding his inclusive leadership and the far-reaching development projects transforming communities across the LGA.
The motion was moved by the Deputy Leader of Council and Councillor representing Ogugu, Ugbo, Owelle, and Amoli Ward, Hon. Brown Moses Okoye, during the council’s plenary session on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at the Awgu Local Government Council headquarters in Enugu.
While moving the motion, Hon. Okoye detailed the reasons behind the council’s decision, stressing that the vote of confidence was driven by the unprecedented level of development being recorded across Awgu under Chairman Okolo’s administration. He highlighted key flagship projects, including the Awgu Water for All Project, which has successfully delivered over 20 solar-powered boreholes to communities across the LGA; the One Ward, One Kilometre Road Project; the installation of 600 solar-powered streetlights that have drastically improved security; and the distribution of over 2,000 Sato pan toilets aimed at eliminating open defecation and improving public health.
The motion was seconded by Hon. Chief Mrs. Nnenna Ume, Councillor representing Mgbudi Mmaku Ward, who concurred that Chairman Okolo has performed exceptionally well within just one year in office. She affirmed that the chairman deserves the full support and encouragement of the council to continue and expand his impactful developmental strides.
The motion received unanimous backing from councillors representing all wards, including Hon. Nosike Kennedy Okonkwo (Isu Ituku Agbudu Ward), Hon. Chukwuemeka Francis (Ihe Ward), Hon. Anthonia Okwudili Udeh (Mgbowo Ward) Hon. Nwankwo Chika Helen (Awgu Ward I), Hon. Chijioke Mmaduabuchi (Anikenano Ugwueme Ward), Hon. KC Nwankwo (Awgu Ward II), Hon. Okafor Ejike (Ogbaku Ward), and Hon. Dr. Miracle Nwigwe Somtochukwu (Abaogugu Ward). Each councillor outlined transformative projects in their respective wards, noting that Hon. Okolo has “performed massively well” and deserves strengthened support to sustain and even surpass his achievements.
They emphasized that one of the most significant ongoing interventions is the construction of 13 kilometres of access roads leading to the newly established Smart Green School across all 11 wards of Awgu LGA.
According to the councillors, this project is not only opening up previously inaccessible communities but also creating a unified road network that will enhance transportation, improve access to education, and stimulate economic activities around the Smart Green School corridor. They noted that the initiative aligns with Governor Peter Mbah’s vision for modernized, technology-driven education and reflects Chairman Okolo’s commitment to delivering infrastructure that will benefit Awgu for generations.
At the close of deliberations, the Leader of Council, Hon. Mrs. Roseline Udeh, formally endorsed and passed the motion, sealing the council’s collective approval and confidence in Chairman Okolo’s administration.
Speaking to UgamaTV, Hon. Dr. Miracle Nwigwe , Hon. Anthonia Okwudili Udeh and Hon. Brown Okoye further elaborated on the council’s decision. They pointed to significant gains under the chairman’s leadership, including improved security architecture, rural electrification efforts, agricultural innovations, the expansion of solar-powered streetlights, and the provision of solar-powered boreholes across all Communities in Awgu .
According to the councillors, these achievements have greatly enhanced living conditions and reaffirmed Chairman Okolo’s unwavering commitment to the development and welfare of the people of Awgu. They further noted that Hon. Uche Okolo is effectively complementing the efforts of Governor Peter Mbah in advancing grassroots development and promoting inclusive governance across the state.
