Arson: Imo CP vows arrest, prosecution of perpetrators

The Imo State Commissioner of Police, Nasiru Muhammed, has vowed the arrest and prosecution of those who razed Ihitte-Uboma Local Government Area Divisional Police Headquarters, the LGA Secretariat, magistrate and High courts all in Ishinweke town.

The CP, who spoke on Wednesday when he visited the Police Divisional Headquarters at Ishinweke, which was burnt by protesting youths and hoodlums on Tuesday, said that “two wrongs can’t make a right”.

Muhammed also condemned the alleged killing of 32-year-old Chinanu Okonkwo, adding that those who set the public facilities ablaze would be made to face the full wrath of the law.

Asking youths to always subject themselves to the law, the CP said that no amount of provocation would had made responsible youths destroy institutions that were working and protecting them.

Muhammed who toured round the Divisional Headquarters and saw that six buildings were razed in the division, said “the destruction here is homongus.”

The CP further noted, “Two wrongs can’t make a right. No matter the provocation, it is wrong to take laws into their hands to the extent of burning the Local Government Area headquarters and the courts. What did the Local Government Headquarters do to them?

“We will not allow those who did this to get away with them. They must face the full wrath of the law. We are talking about community policing and that is where everybody is involved. The bad boys must be fetched out.”
