Armed Men Launch Coordinated Attacks on Military Bases in Kaduna and Niger, Soldiers Killed

On Tuesday, June 24, a group of armed men launched coordinated assaults on military bases in Kaduna and Niger states, resulting in the deaths of several soldiers.

According to a statement from the Defence Headquarters, the attacks occurred at forward operating bases located in Aungwan Turai (Chikun Local Government Area, Kaduna State) and in Kwanar Dutse, Mairiga, and Boka (Niger State).

Describing the incident as a “three-pronged attack,” the military said troops from both land and air components swiftly responded with counterattacks, killing many of the assailants during the fierce, day-long engagements.

“On 24 June 2025, forward operating bases in the general areas of Kwanar Dutse, Mairiga, and Boka in Niger State, as well as Aungwan Turai in Chikun LGA, Kaduna State, were attacked by bandits in a coordinated three-pronged operation. In response, troops launched a series of counter-assaults from both the land and air, neutralizing scores of the attackers. Regrettably, a number of brave soldiers lost their lives in the battle,” the statement said.

Additionally, four wounded soldiers are currently receiving medical treatment.

The military also confirmed that clearance operations are underway in nearby areas to track down those who fled the scene.
