Aregbesola inaugurates Enugu Immigration office burnt during #ENDSARS protests

The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has inaugurated the reconstructed office complex of the Enugu State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service on Enugu-Abakaliki Road Emene.

The service’s Public Relations Officer, Amos Okpu, disclosed this on Friday in a statement titled, ‘Aregbesola commissions Enugu State Command Office Complex for the NIS.’

Aregbesola, who represented the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), described the edifice as a show of the government’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for the workforce in order to ensure enhanced productivity.

Recall that the Enugu State Command building was earlier slated for inauguration on October 24, but got torched by arsonists two days earlier during the #ENDSARS protests.

The minister noted that the best of machines and computer systems in a poor work environment will not add any meaningful value to workers’ productivity.

He said, “the minimum facility that can be provided for a man who bears arms is not only safety but a workplace environment where his best performance can be easily harnessed.”

He, therefore, charged officers and men of the command to embrace a high maintenance culture, serene work environment and transparent service delivery to ensure that people who come to the Complex for any service get treated decently.

Aregbesola thanked the government and the people of Enugu State especially some illustrious individuals in the State who assisted in the reconstruction of the building.

Speaking earlier, the Comptroller General of Immigration, Muhammad Babandede, stated that upon assumption of office, he promised to build and inaugurate at least two new command office buildings yearly.

The Enugu Command complex brings the number of command complexes already built and delivered to 11.

He advised officers to make good use of the building, adding that the service is retooling all its processes and procedures for enhanced service delivery.
