APC, PDP clash over Buhari’s UK medical trip

The Peoples Democratic Party has welcomed the  President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), back to Nigeria from his medical tourism to the United Kingdom.

The PDP, in a statement, by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, on Friday, also faulted the statement by the ruling All Progressives Congress that Buhari had been “re-energised” after his medical treatment in London.

The opposition party said the statement by the APC was “a confirmation that Mr President had been incapable and lethargic, leading to the inefficiency, disorganisation and general misrule that have bedevilled his administration.”

The PDP statement partly read, “Nigerians are at a loss on the import of President Buhari’s declaration upon his return that what they should expect is continuity.

“Our party wishes to remind Mr President that he was elected for a last term of four years, which will end on May 29, 2023.

“Now that Mr President is ‘re-energised,’ his handlers have no further excuses on his failure to lead from the front as he promised, in the fight against terrorists and insurgents, whose activities escalated under his watch.”

“Our party, therefore, expects the ‘re-energised’ President Buhari as the Commander-in-Chief to immediately proceed to Zamfara, Borno, Kaduna, Adamawa and other states where terrorists have practically taken over communities on account of the failures of his administration.”

The APC had, in a statement by its Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee, said it was highly elated by Buhari’s return from his medical trip to London.

The statement, titled ‘APC Welcomes Mr President,’ was signed by the Secretary of the APC CECPC, Senator John Akpanudoedehe,

The party said, “Mr President is undoubtedly re-energised and recommitted to executing the lofty developmental objectives of the APC-led administration. We pray for Mr President’s continued good health and wisdom to pilot the nation’s affairs and achieve our Next Level agenda to uplift Nigerians.”
