APC Chieftain Eze Chukwuemeka Slams Wike Over Background Claims, Attacks on Amaechi’s Wife

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has strongly criticized the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over comments he made during a recent interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

In the interview, Wike claimed he came from a wealthy family and used to drive to school in his own car—drawing a contrast between his background and that of his former political mentor, Rotimi Amaechi. He also alleged that Dame Judith, Amaechi’s wife, received N4 million monthly to train women in Rivers State and challenged anyone to prove otherwise, vowing to resign if a forensic audit of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) failed to indict her.

Reacting, Chief Eze, an ally of Amaechi, dismissed Wike’s claims as false and self-degrading. He accused Wike of fabricating a false narrative about his upbringing in an attempt to rewrite history and elevate his status.

According to Eze, “Wike was once an errand boy to Amaechi. Today, he’s denying everyone who helped lift him out of the poverty that once plagued his family.”

Eze questioned whether Wike appointed himself as Local Government Chairman, Chief of Staff, and later as Minister under President Goodluck Jonathan, emphasizing that all these roles came through Amaechi’s support.

“Claiming his father was wealthy, when poverty clung to his family like sunlight at noon, is nothing short of delusion,” Eze said in a statement issued to journalists over the weekend.

He further alleged that Wike’s father, if alive, would be disappointed in his son’s denial of his roots. Eze claimed Wike was disowned by his father due to his character, and that he only completed his education because a friend’s father stepped in to pay his fees.

Turning to Wike’s criticism of Amaechi’s wife, Eze said, “While he attempts to tarnish Dame Judith’s image, one has to wonder if Wike’s own wife is fit to serve as a judge. Sleeping nightly beside someone like Wike could impair anyone’s sense of judgment. The judiciary is a noble institution, and the background of a judge matters.”

Eze blamed Amaechi for ever bringing Wike into politics, saying it was the former Rivers Governor’s greatest political mistake.

He also accused Wike of destroying nearly all key projects and policies initiated under Amaechi’s administration, including agricultural and education reforms. “Wike dismantled programs that could have addressed today’s food insecurity and educational setbacks. His tenure as governor was defined by erasing Amaechi’s legacy rather than building his own.”
