The All Progressives Congress has announced the procedures for its presidential primary election scheduled for May 23, 2026, confirming that the party will adopt the direct primary method to choose its presidential candidate.
In a notice issued on Thursday, the party’s National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, disclosed that the exercise would take place across all 8,809 wards nationwide.
According to him, all registered members of the party will be eligible to vote for their preferred presidential aspirant in their respective wards. President Bola Tinubu, who is seeking re-election for a second term, is expected to face a challenge from Stanley Osifo.
Basiru explained that results from the wards would be collated at the local government level by designated collation officers appointed by the party’s National Working Committee and state coordinators.
He further stated that state coordinators and collation officers across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory would oversee the conduct of the exercise and submit collated results to the Presidential Primary Election Committee in Abuja on May 24, 2026.
The APC also announced the composition of its Presidential Primary Election Committee, with former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim appointed as chairman.
Other members of the committee include Ken Nnamani, Udo Udoma, Grace Layoye-Ponle, Idris Wada, Jolly Nyame, while Sani Sanusi will serve as secretary.
The party also appointed APC governors as coordinators in their respective states, while other notable appointments include Ben Kalu for Abia State, Phillip Aduda for the FCT, Teslim Folarin for Oyo State, Gboyega Oyetola for Osun State, Uche Ekwunife for Anambra State, and Yakubu Dogara for Bauchi State.
