Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has responded to criticism from social media users over her decision to burn the white outfit she wore to the burial of her late colleague, Alexx Ekubo.
Ekubo, who died on May 11, was laid to rest on June 18 in his hometown of Arochukwu, Abia State. Okorie joined other members of the entertainment industry in paying their final respects at the burial ceremony.
Controversy, however, erupted after the actress shared a video on Instagram showing the outfit being set on fire. Explaining her action, Okorie said her godmother had instructed her never to keep clothes worn to funerals. She added that she was following that advice and encouraged her followers to do the same as a form of personal or spiritual protection.
The post sparked mixed reactions online, with some critics describing the act as insensitive and accusing the actress of disrespecting the memory of the late actor.
Responding to the backlash, Okorie defended her decision, insisting that she was merely observing a personal tradition. She dismissed the criticism and maintained that she had every right to follow her beliefs without interference from the public.
