ANAMBRA: Police recover decomposed body, arrest suspects

The Anambra State Police Command has recovered the decomposing corpse of a 34-year-old man, Henry Okam, in Okija, in the Ihiala Local Government Area of the state.

The police also arrested three suspects, Obasi Ezinne, Ntomchukwu Anabaraonye and Abuchi Obinna in connection with the murder.

 UGAMATV learnt that the suspects abducted the victim on August 30, 2020, and killed him.

It was gathered that the men later buried the corpse in a shallow grave.    ,,

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, in a statement on Sunday, said operatives of the state Special Anti-Robbery Squad arrested the suspects on September 5, 2020, adding that a pomp-action rifle was recovered from them.

He said, “The suspects had on August 30, 2020, allegedly abducted one Henry Okam in Ihiala LGA of Anambra State. They also killed the victim with a pump-action rifle and subsequently buried him in a shallow grave.

“Meanwhile, the suspects, who voluntarily confessed to the crime, took operatives to a thick forest in Ihiala, where the decomposing body of the victim was exhumed and recovered to the mortuary for an autopsy after it was certified dead by a medical doctor.

“Consequently, the gun used by the suspects in perpetrating the heinous crime, including the victim’s phones, were also recovered from them and registered as exhibits.”
