Anambra Guber: INEC accepts Umeoji as APGA candidate, Soludo still hopeful

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has accepted the filled Nomination Forms containing the name of Chukwuma Umeoji as the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the Anambra governorship election.

The acceptance of the nomination by the electoral umpire followed the Jigawa High Court judgment that nullified the candidature of former Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo and in accordance with Section 32 of the Electoral Act.

The official deadline for making the submission closed on Friday, August 6th, 2021.

A statement by Comrade Ikechukwu Chukwunyere, factional National Publicity Secretary of APGA, described the acceptance as a welcome development.

He said majority of APGA chieftains and House of Assembly lawmakers also described the latest development as a victory for the party members who have stood with Umeoji and are willing to sink and die for his ticket.

The statement said the member representing Ihiala Federal Constituency in the house of Representatives Ifeanyi Momoh and some other members the State House of Assembly welcomed the development.

The statement added that the lawmakers appealed to Governor Willie Obiano, Chief Victor Oye and Prof. Charles Soludo to as one family rally round Umeoji who holds the key to APGA victory to help develop on the agenda of APGA to keep doing more and expanding the good works of the party.

Recall that most recently, the Imo State High Court had also declared Umeoji as the authentic governorship candidate of APGA for the election.

But the camp of the former CBN governor has maintained that the Appeal Court judgment would go in favour of Soludo, wondering why Umeoji keeps moving from one High Court to another in search of judgment.

Speaking to DAILY POST on Friday after the news went viral that INEC had accepted the nomination form of Umeoji, Hon Pauly Onyeka, Spokesman to Prof. Soludo said, “But his name has since been published by INEC purely in obedience to the illicit Jigawa court orders.

He, however, assured that the situation would change immediately after the Appeal Court sitting in Kano delivers its verdict which is being expected to happen soon.
