The Anambra State House of Assembly has suspended the member representing Ayamelum Constituency, Hon. Bernard Udemezue, for three months without pay over alleged unparliamentary conduct.
The Assembly directed that Udemezue should not be seen within the premises of the legislative chamber during the period of his suspension.
The decision followed the consideration of a report presented on Tuesday by the House Committee on Rules, Business, Ethics and Privileges, chaired by the Majority Leader and member representing Ekwusigo Constituency, Sir Ikenna Ofodeme.
UGAMA TV recalls that Hon. Udemezue had caused a stir last weekend when he clashed with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s security aides at an event in his community. The lawmaker reportedly insisted on approaching his traditional ruler to exchange pleasantries, even though the governor was already seated. Attempts to force his way into the VIP stand were resisted by security operatives.
Hon. Udemezue, who has been a consistent critic of the Soludo administration, now faces a three-month suspension as disciplinary action from the House.
