The leaders of Alor Uno community in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State have sounded a powerful warning against any unauthorised sale or encroachment on lands belonging to the Ugbene Alor Uno Kingdom.
In a public notice made available to journalists on Tuesday, and signed by Edoga Arumona Asogwa, the Onyishi (oldest man) of the community, on behalf of the Leaders of Thought, the elders cautioned that “anyone trespassing on the land within the kingdom’s borders does so at their own risk.”
They declared that any sale, transfer or disposition of either individual or communal land “without the express authority and approval of Edoga Arumona Asogwa and the Executive members of Ohaneze Leaders of Thought, Alor Uno” will be treated as null and void.
The statement further dissociated the community from any person, group or organisation claiming to sell, annex or lay claim to territories belonging to neighbouring communities—including Obukpa, Nsukka and Edem—while using the name of Alor Uno or any part of it.
“Any person or organisation dealing with individuals claiming to represent any part of Alor Uno to transfer or annex land without explicit approval of those vested with authority by Ohaneze Ugbene Alor Uno does so at their own risk and such transaction will be considered illegal,” the leaders warned.
They added that any unauthorised sale or transfer of land, henceforth, without proper consultation of the Umunna (kindred council) will trigger legal action, including revocation of the transaction and other remedies available under applicable laws.
The elders urged the people of Enugu State and the general public to “beware of land grabbers,” stressing that the community will not hesitate to protect its ancestral heritage through every legal means.
