The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has announced the rescue of 20 Ghanaian nationals, comprising 10 males and 10 females, who were trafficked into the state.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed that the rescue operation followed a formal complaint from the Ghana Police Service and INTERPOL.
According to John, operatives stormed a compound in Obio Etoi village, Uyo Local Government Area, at about 4:17 p.m. on Monday, August 18, 2025, acting on credible intelligence.
“The raid led to the rescue of 10 males and 10 females (names withheld), all confirmed to be Ghanaian nationals,” she said. “The victims presently appear disoriented and have been unable to provide useful information, leading investigators to suspect they may have been hypnotized.”
The police spokesperson noted that the victims are currently in protective custody while investigations continue to unravel the circumstances surrounding their trafficking.
She assured that further developments will be communicated to the public as the Command works with relevant authorities to ensure justice and rehabilitation for the victims.
