AFCON 2025: Super Eagles striker Akor Adams’ goal named among CAF’s top five

Super Eagles striker Akor Adams has been recognised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as one of the top five goal scorers at the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025.

 

 

 

Adams’ memorable strike came in the quarter-final clash against Algeria, where his precision, composure, and technical brilliance helped Nigeria secure a 2–0 victory.

The goal played a crucial role in helping the Super Eagles to a third-place finish in the competition.

 

 

 

CAF published the list of the tournament’s top five goals on its official AFCON 2025 X handle.

1. Ayuoub El Kaabi (Morocco)

 

Ayoub El Kaabi stole the show with a bicycle kick shortly after entering as a substitute. Reading a floated cross into the box, he launched himself into the air, executing a perfectly timed strike that looped over defenders and beat the keeper, providing Morocco with a spectacular moment against Comoros

 

2. Christian Kofane (Cameroon)

 

Teenage forward Christian Kofane announced himself on the AFCON stage with a ferocious strike from 30 yards, leaving the Mozambique goalkeeper with no chance. The goal not only helped Cameroon advance but also marked him as one of the tournament’s brightest young talents.

 

3. Adil Boulbina (Algeria)

 

In a dramatic last-16 clash against the Democratic Republic of Congo, Boulbina emerged as Algeria’s hero with a breathtaking extra-time strike that secured a 1–0 victory and a quarter-final berth. His goal was a combination of timing, technique, and sheer impact.

 

4. Pape Gueye (Senegal)

In a final filled with controversy and chaos, Senegal midfielder Pape Gueye scored the decisive goal against hosts Morocco. In the fourth minute of extra time, he fired a powerful left-footed strike into the top corner, clinching a 1–0 victory and Senegal’s second AFCON title.
