Adamawa Police Dismantle Child Trafficking Syndicate, Rescue 13 Victims

 

The Adamawa state police command has rescued 13 trafficked children from a syndicate operating between Adamawa and Anambra States.

Police spokesperson SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje confirmed the situation to journalist on Sunday.

He revealed that the victims, aged between 5 and 9, were abducted from different parts of Adamawa State and sold to a buyer in Nnewi, Anambra State.

“The rescue operation was made possible through a coordinated effort between the state government and security agencies, following credible intelligence.” He revealed.

Nguroje added that efforts are ongoing to identify the children’s parents for prompt reunion.

“Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime, 45-year-old Mrs. Ngozi Abdulwahab of Jambutu in Yola North LGA, who allegedly sold the children, including her own child, to 65-year-old Mrs. Uche Okoye in Kabuku, Nnewi.” He added.

Reacting to the development Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, described the trafficking as inhumane and assured that the victims are receiving medical treatment and psychological support at the Specialist Hospital, Jimeta.
