Actress Bijou Phillips still awaiting kidney match after 1,000 donors volunteer

More than 1,000 people have come forward in hopes of helping save Bijou Phillips’ life, but it has not yet resulted in a match.

Sources with direct knowledge say over 1,000 potential donors stepped up after news broke that Bijou urgently needs a second kidney transplant. Despite the remarkable response, doctors have not found a compatible donor.

Bijou’s blood type is B negative, and she requires a donor with B negative, B positive, O negative or O positive blood. Those close to the situation say more people are being encouraged to get tested given the seriousness of her condition.

She remains hospitalised and is currently undergoing dialysis, which sources describe as physically taxing. While she is alert and able to communicate, her condition fluctuates, with good hours and difficult ones. It is understood she will likely remain in the hospital until a suitable match is found.

Family members have been by her side during the ordeal. Her half-sisters, singer Chynna Phillips and actress Mackenzie Phillips, have visited, and her daughter, Fianna, has also been spending time with her. When her daughter is not at the hospital, Bijou is said to be cared for by other relatives and a close family friend.

Bijou is being treated at UCLA under the care of Dr. Anjay Rastogi at CORE Kidney. She previously received a kidney transplant in 2017 from a friend, but that kidney has since failed. Her representative has said she suffered complications, including the BK virus, which led to both cellular and antibody rejection.

Born with underdeveloped kidneys, Bijou spent the first three months of her life in the NICU on dialysis and has battled kidney disease ever since.
