Abuja Court Sentences Anita Job, Mother of Three, to 27 Years for Drug Trafficking

Justice Hauwa Joseph Yilwa of the Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced an Abuja based business woman, Mrs Anita Job to 27 years imprisonment for dealing in illicit drugs in the Federal Capital Territory. FCT.

The business woman who is a mother of three children was on Friday  found guilty and convicted of dealing in drugs in the two count charges brought against by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA),

Justice Yilwa upon finding her guilty sentenced her to 12 years in the count one and 15 years in the count two.

However, following her remorsefulness throughout the proceedings, being a first offender and admitting guilt without wasting the time of the court, the Judge ordered that the sentence should run concurrently.

With the order, the convicted woman would spend only 15 years of her life in prison.

Justice Yilwa said that although the convict was remorseful, the issue of drug crime must not be taken lightly because of the consequences on the country and the international community.

The Judge was particularly piqued that the convict was found with illicit drugs of 250 Kilograms, being a commercial quantity.

Her lawyer, Barrister D. I. Badams had pleaded passionately with the judge to temper justice with mercy in view of the vow by the convict not to return to illicit drug business in her life.
