The Abia State Government has issued a strong warning to civil servants involved in theft and corrupt practices, urging them to abandon such behaviour or face strict consequences.
In a renewed effort to sanitize the state’s public service, the government has also released a dedicated phone number (0802 700 0051) and an email address for stakeholders and citizens to report unethical conduct.
Speaking in Umuahia, the Head of Service, Mr. Benson Ojeikere, emphasized the administration’s commitment to eradicating corruption and instilling a culture of accountability and discipline within the civil service.
Ojeikere expressed concern that widespread theft and fraudulent acts have severely damaged the reputation of the public service. He urged civil servants to cleanse the system by embracing integrity and working to restore the credibility and honour of government institutions.
He also encouraged workers to:
Prioritize discipline, self-motivation, and excellence.
Focus on adding value rather than chasing personal or financial gain.
Make necessary sacrifices in the interest of public service.
Ojeikere warned that sabotaging government policies and programmes would no longer be tolerated and called on workers to comply with the new operational procedures introduced by the state.
Finally, he urged all public servants to adopt a positive attitude and regularly reflect on their ethical conduct. Stakeholders are encouraged to report any form of unethical behavior via the provided phone line or email to support the government’s efforts in reforming the civil service.
