Abducted Katsina couple and their daughter freed after N50m ransom was paid

A Katsina businessman, Anas Ahmadu, his seven-month pregnant wife, Halimatu, and their two-year-old daughter, have regained their freedom three weeks after being kidnapped.

The victims were released on Wednesday night, September 17, after spending 21 days in captivity.

A relative of the family told Daily Trust that a ransom of N50 million was paid to secure their release.

“Alhamdulillah! Anas, Halimatu, and their daughter have been released by their captors tonight. They are on their way home. But a ransom of N50 million was paid to the assailants,” he said.

He added that, for security reasons, details of the location where the victims were picked up would not be disclosed.

The family was abducted on August 26, 2025, from their residence in Filin Canada Quarters, Katsina metropolis.

The kidnappers initially demanded N600 million for their release, but later reduced the ransom to N100 million on September 3, before finally settling at N50million.
