The peaceful community of Uhene Otokwu, Mmaku, in Enugu State has been thrown into mourning following the passing of their beloved matriarch, Lolo Sylvia Chizeremokwu Obasichukwu Anude (J.P.) (née Udeji), wife of the late Chief Ogbuefi Eugene Obasichukwu Anude. She transited to eternal glory on the 14th of July, 2025, after a brief illness, at the age of 78.

 

To her family, friends, church, and community, Lolo Sylvia was more than just a wife, mother, grandmother, and sister—she was a radiant pillar of faith, love, and kindness, whose devotion to God and humanity illuminated every life she touched.

 

According to the burial arrangements released by the family, the Christian wake-keep will hold on Thursday, 2nd October 2025, at her husband’s compound, Ama-udala Otokwu, Mmaku. On Friday, 3rd October 2025, her remains will depart from Eagle’s Mortuary, Awgu, with a brief stop at her father’s compound at late Chief Udeji Udeze’s residence, Enugu Affam Mmaku, before proceeding to her family home. By 8:00 a.m., her body will lie in state, followed by a solemn burial service at the Primary School Field, Otokwu Mmaku, at 9:00 a.m. Interment will take place at her residence, after which a reception will hold at the same venue.

 

Saturday, 4th October, has been dedicated to quiet condolences, while on Sunday, 5th October 2025, the final outing service will be conducted at Saint John’s Parish, Otokwu Mmaku, in thanksgiving to God for a life well-lived.

 

Lolo Sylvia is survived by her children—Udehue Cecilia Ekwutosi, Obasichukwu Chidie, Obasichukwu Ifeanyi Emmanuel, and Nduaguuba Chidimma—together with in-laws, grandchildren, and extended family members who deeply cherish her legacy of faith and humility.

 

In their tribute, the family described her as “a virtuous woman whose life of love, service, and devotion to God and humanity will forever be remembered.”

 

As the people of Mmaku prepare to bid her a final farewell, her memory remains enshrined in the hearts of many as a woman of prayer, discipline, and uncommon grace.

 

“Mama, you are forever in our hearts. May your gentle soul rest in perfect peace, Amen,” the family wrote in deep emotion.
