“A Century of Grace: Obeagu Community Celebrates Life and Legacy of Ogbuefi Mrs. Catherine Mgbonkwoegwu Okeke”

Obeagu Town, Awgu LGA, Enugu State — September 5, 2025

The serene community of Obeagu Town in Awgu Local Government Area, Enugu State, came alive on Friday, September 5, 2025, as relatives, friends, dignitaries, and well-wishers gathered to celebrate the remarkable life and legacy of Ogbuefi Mrs. Catherine Mgbonkwoegwu Okeke (née Aneke), who passed away at the blessed age of 100 years.

The burial ceremony was a blend of solemnity, gratitude, and cultural celebration, reflecting the impact Mama had on generations and the community at large. Described as a pillar of strength, faith, and wisdom, Mama Catherine’s influence extended far beyond her family, leaving a legacy of love, resilience, and community values.

Speaking with UGAMA TV during the ceremony, family members including her first son, Ogbuefi Titus Okeke, her daughter Mrs. Stella Odua, her first daughter-in-law, Mrs. Maryann Okeke, her sons Hygienus Onyekachukwu Okeke and Onyebuchi Okeke, as well as her granddaughter Mrs. Chinaza Okeke, all paid glowing tributes to Mama’s life of virtue. They remembered her as a woman of unshakable faith and boundless love, praying for the peaceful repose of her soul in the bosom of the Almighty.

The family also expressed profound gratitude to everyone who came from far and near to honor their matriarch, noting that the massive turnout was a true testament to the values Mama embodied throughout her century-long journey.

Mama Catherine was finally laid to rest at her family compound in Obeagu Town, surrounded by children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives, and friends who celebrated her as a symbol of grace and a blessing to the community.

Her passing marks the close of an era, but her legacy of love, faith, and unity will continue to inspire generations to come.
