The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2025 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE), with 60.26% of candidates recording five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics.

 

 

 

Registrar and Chief Executive of NECO, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, announced the results at the Council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State, on Wednesday evening, September 17

 

 

 

 

Out of the 1,367,310 candidates who sat for the exam nationwide — comprising 680,292 males and 678,047 females — a total of 818,492 secured five credits including English and Mathematics, while 1,144,496 candidates obtained five credits and above irrespective of the two core subjects.

 

 

 

The results were released 54 days after the conclusion of the last paper.

 

 

 

 

 

Wushishi further disclosed that 38 schools across 13 states were implicated in “whole-school cheating” and would face sanctions after discussions with the Council. In addition, 3,878 individual cases of malpractice were recorded, a sharp decline compared to 10,094 cases in 2024.

 

 

 

Nine supervisors were also found guilty of aiding examination malpractice. Offences included poor supervision, lateness, unruly behavior, aiding and abetting, assault, and insubordination. They have been recommended for blacklisting.

 

 

 

The Registrar also noted that examinations were disrupted in eight schools in Adamawa State due to communal clashes that occurred between July 7 and 25. This disruption affected 13 subjects, 29 papers, and 559 candidates. NECO is currently engaging with the Adamawa State Government to arrange special examinations for the affected students.

 

 

 

Wushishi stressed that while results from the disrupted schools could not be released because they were incomplete, the Council remains committed to ensuring fairness and credibility in the conduct of its examinations.
