£4.2m Ibori loot: Urhobo petition Buhari, take protest to AGF

James Ibori

A delegation of Urhobo extraction in Delta State, on Friday, led a protest to the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), demanding that the repatriated £4.2m looted by ex-governor James Ibori should be used for the completion of projects belonging to the Federal Government in the state.

According to them, using the money to development projects outside Delta State would be “double jeopardy.”

The demands, which came barely three weeks after the return of the money by the government of United Kingdom to Nigeria, were contained in a letter to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), submitted and copied to the AGF in Abuja and signed by the President-General of Urhobo Progressive Union, Chief Joe Omene.

The UPU said the money should be used for the rehabilitation of Ologbo-Warri Federal Road; Sapele-Amukpe-Aghalokpe-Eku-Abraka-Agbor Federal Road; and Warri-Ughelli-Asaba Road.

The organisation pleaded that the money should be used for the rehabilitation of deteriorated access roads and operational infrastructure of federal assets, including seaports, refineries, steel complex, security personnel barracks, and federal tertiary institutions in Delta, among others.
