30 Years Strong: CIC Enugu Class of ’95 Turns Reunion Into Legacy With Landmark E-Library Project

Enugu — December 20–21, 2025

The College of the Immaculate Conception (CIC), Enugu, was transformed into a hub of nostalgia, gratitude, and forward-looking purpose as the Class of 1995 marked its 30th anniversary with a landmark legacy project that underscored the true meaning of giving back.

Held under the theme “30 Years of Brotherhood, Growth, and Legacy,” the historic reunion brought together old boys from across Nigeria and the diaspora, alongside school management and staff, in a celebration that went far beyond memories—into meaningful impact.

Class of ’95 Unveils Modern E-Library

The high point of the celebration was the unveiling of a renovated modern e-library, the official pet project of the CIC Class of 1995.

Speaking at the event, the Class Chairman, Hon. Friday Ugbonna, described the project as a phased, long-term commitment to educational excellence.

“This is the first phase of the project. There will be a second and a third phase. This first phase is to show that we have received and that we want to give back,” he said.

In the presence of the school principal and staff, Hon. Ugbonna formally unveiled the facility, declaring:

“On behalf of myself, my honourable colleagues, and my classmates, I hereby unveil this e-library in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.”

A Vision Beyond Walls: Towards a Fully Functional Digital Hub

Inside the library, Hon. Ilo Somtochukwu outlined the broader vision of the project, noting that a true e-library must extend beyond physical renovation.

He emphasised the need for:

  • Stable and robust internet connectivity
  • Standalone computer systems with digitised academic resources
  • Integration with global knowledge platforms, including the Library of Congress

He further proposed technology boot camps for students in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, deep learning, and e-learning, aimed at early exposure to future career paths.

“This is a promise we have made, and it is a project we must fulfil. Giving back is the little we can do for the people who made us,” he stated.

School Management Commends Alumni’s Commitment

The Principal of CIC Enugu, Rev. Fr. Oliver Chetanna Ngwu, expressed deep appreciation to the Class of ’95 for their generosity and sustained commitment.

“With a heart full of joy and gratitude, I say welcome back to your home, your alma mater,” he said.

He praised the alumni for inspiring a culture of service and assured them that the e-library would be properly maintained and fully utilised, particularly for students from underprivileged backgrounds.

Chairman Reaffirms Long-Term Commitment

In an interview with UGAMA TV, Hon. Ugbonna reiterated the class’s resolve to continuously upgrade the facility.

“This e-library is our pet project. From time to time, we will be upgrading it. By the grace of God, within the next two years, it will be fully transformed with computers, projectors, and structured learning programmes,” he said.

He also noted that several classmates travelled from abroad to attend the anniversary, a testament to the enduring unity of the class.

Planning Committee Applauds Collective Effort

Delivering the welcome address, Arc. Arinze Onwubiko Anselm, Chairman of the Planning Committee, thanked members for their unwavering support.

“This event exists because you believed in it and supported it. Our decision to give back through the renovation and restocking of the library speaks volumes about the heart and maturity of this class,” he said.

He stressed that long after the celebrations, the library would remain a lasting legacy for future generations of CIC students.

Insightful Sessions on Life, Security, and Health

The anniversary featured enriching presentations, including:

  • Pastor Vitalise Ndu, who spoke on preparing for retirement, purpose, and fruitful ageing from a biblical perspective.
  • Dr. Chijioke Sunday, who addressed security awareness in Nigeria, emphasising vigilance, community cooperation, and personal safety.
  • Dr. Henry Chinedum Ekwedigwe, who shared vital health tips on cardiovascular health, diabetes prevention, weight management, exercise, and healthy ageing.

Celebration, Awards, and Thanksgiving

The event concluded with moments of laughter, refreshments, and entertainment, followed by the presentation of awards recognising the unity, brotherhood, and contributions of members of the Class of 1995.

On Saturday, December 21, a Thanksgiving Mass was held at the CIC Chapel, officiated by Rev. Fr. Hillary Mbodele, after which members and guests departed.

More Than a Reunion

The 30th anniversary of the CIC Enugu Class of 1995 was more than a reunion—it was a powerful statement of gratitude, responsibility, and vision. Through the unveiling of the modern e-library, the class reaffirmed its commitment to shaping the future of CIC Enugu and empowering generations yet unborn.

Thirty years on, the brotherhood of ’95 stands not just remembered—but impactful, united, and enduring.
